Paris Saint-Germain are nearing the completion of a deal valued at approximately £20m for Lucas Beraldo, a player previously sought after by Liverpool, as reported by 90min.
The 20-year-old has captured Liverpool's interest for several months as the club seeks to strengthen its defensive lineup. However, Liverpool, the six-time European Cup and Champions League victors, have not been the sole team keeping an eye on Beraldo.
Wolves attempted to acquire the Sao Paulo centre-back during the summer but were unsuccessful, while Zenit Saint Petersburg, a prominent Russian team, previously had a substantial offer rejected. Bayern Munich had also displayed interest.
Leicester City, leading the Championship and seemingly set for a return to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity, had also aimed to secure Beraldo. Nonetheless, according to 90min, PSG is now at the forefront of finalizing a deal and aims to conclude negotiations before any further interest from England materializes.
Liverpool had identified Beraldo as a potential prospect for the future. However, Jurgen Klopp now seems to face a shortage of choices heading into January after Joel Matip's season was cut short by an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Sources informed 90min that Liverpool will explore the market for a replacement at an appropriate price, despite Klopp publicly stating his belief that an additional signing isn't necessary. The German coach currently has Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and promising youngster Jarell Quansah at his disposal.
PSG is also reported to be advancing in their pursuit of signing the young Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, a player who has attracted extensive attention from Barcelona and Chelsea. Luis Campos, a football advisor at the club, is eager to finalize deals for both Moscardo and Beraldo before January, with the former's agreement likely to also hover around the £20m mark.
